We all know the genius—and perhaps the craziness—of Kanye West, but for this list, I want to focus on his first major project: "The College Dropout." It was an incredible, groundbreaking album, but it also introduced one of the most upfront, in-your-face aesthetics of the time.
In a hip-hop environment saturated with baggy clothes and "bad boy" energy, Kanye arrived with his clean, preppy style. At first sight, you might have thought it was an industry-friendly move, but looking back, you realize it was just Kanye being Kanye: no need to conform. His flashy fits, the "good boy" polo outfits, and the iconic Polo Bear stood in stark contrast to everything we had seen before.
But besides the music (and yes, I love the album), it was a powerful inspiration for all of us. It was a message that we can be different, we can style our clothes however we want, and we can absolutely be cool wearing a pink Ralph Lauren sweater with a Polo Bear graphic if we feel like it.
